See photos of a village in Nepal before and after a huge landslide



A satellite flying hundreds of miles above Earth caught sight of the aftermath of a deadly landslide that destroyed hundreds of homes in Langtang village in Nepal after an earthquake struck the region on April 25.

The GeoEye-1 satellite (part of the DigitalGlobe constellation of satellites) captured a photo of the area on May 3 and shows the aftermath of the landslide. The photo is particularly striking when compared to an image of the area taken in 2011 by the now defunct QuickBird satellite.

The magnitude-7.8 earthquake, the largest quake to hit Nepal in more than 80 years, killed at least 7,000 people. According to a report from the BBC, 178 local villagers died in Langtang after the quake and landslide hit Read more…
